Adult Service Areas Dysarthria
Dysarthria is a motor speech disorder caused by weakness or paralysis of the muscles used for speech. The following areas of speech may be impaired: articulation, rate, volume, prosody and respiratory support. Dysarthria is the result of damage to the central or peripheral nervous system. Common causes include:
- stroke
- brain tumour
- head trauma
- neuromuscular diseases
